A LOVER complementing his MISTRISS, to the Tune of, she's sweet like sugar candie
THou's she whom many men adores
shall I not then admire thee?
The wisest and the best implores
assistance to endear thee:
For wit, for vertue, and true worth,
who rightly understands thee,
Must all confess, and each express,
Thou'rt sweet as Sugar candie:
With prudence to each degree,
thou doth discharge thy duty?
I do believe there none alive
that can compare in beauty.
Thy daring Eye, thy Cherrey Cheek,
thy Rubie Lip commands me,
Thou're red and white, and my delite
And sweet as Sugar candie.
Grace so adorns thy Soul and Heart,
shews thou're a Divine Creature,
Both wit and Art proves to be
the Ornament of Nature:
Let best of wits go search and plot,
I do beliee they'l find the
Religious, Pious and Devout,
And sweet as Sugar candie
Thy charming voice and sugared Speech
alluring Baits most sweetly,
Like Orpheus Harp bewitches Ears,
and feeds thy mind compleatly?
Thou penetrates into the Heart,
there's none that can withstand thee,
Thou'rt mild and meek, humane, discreet
And sweet as Sugar candie.
Sweet and discreet, if kind compleat,
Idea of Perfection,
Fancies Feature so inflames
my Blood, since the election
Of my Dear, I know and fear
I cannot live and want thee?
Will thou deny, sure then I dy.
For lack of thee my Candie:
Disdain him not, since surely he
was snar'd by thy Allurement,
If I do err in loving thee,
it is thy own procurement:
Reject not him who still retains
sincere Affection for thee,
Will thou incline constant and kind,
Then sweet like Sugar candie.
Thou'rt Candied so the world must know
then're the best of all Confection.
Will thou be kind and cure my mind,
I shall observe direction:
Thou are the Balm can cure my wounds,
the Powers above commands thee,
Let me no more Torment endure
For want of Sugar candie,
