The Loyal Maidens Complaint:

MY dearest Love you are to blame,
|
Thus for to grieve or to complain,
|
For tho' I other Maids did view,
|
Yet all my thoughts are still on you.
|
For thou art she both Day and Night
|
On whom I place my chief Delight
|
And tho' I have choise of Women too
|
I never can love one but you.
|
If I did often swear and vow,
|
I would love none but only thee.
|
My dearest love shall find it now
|
That I will ever faithful be.
|
What tho' I was at Chatam Town,
|
Where once I went and sat me down,
|
And took another on my knee,
|
It was to try your constancy.
|
For I did hear you was unkind,
|
And in my absence change your mind,
|
But since I find your Loyaltie,
|
I'll be as Loyal unto thee.
|
I fain would know the reason why,
|
You Tax me thus with Perjury,
|
And say I'm false and cruel too,
|
Yet I love none but only you.
|
There is a Maid is lovely brown
|
That lives indeed at Chatam Town,
|
To her I said I would prove true,
|
But what I spake was meant of you,
|
What tho your Friends would not agree,
|
That you and I should wedded be,
|
Yet all the World shall ne're prevent,
|
Since I have got thy own consent:

I to my love will quickly fly,
|
And in my Arms she then shall ly,
|
Then all the World shall plainly see,
|
I love you true, as you love me.

Then dearest love pray cease to mourn
|
'Twill not be long e're I return:
|
For none but thee I will adore,
|
What can you then desire more.

I understand the grief and woe,
|
Which you for me do undergoe,
|
And Pity all the pains you bear,
|
For Im resolv'd to ease your care.
|
My love this Ring I send to you,
|
In token that I will prove true,
|
The Poesy is you have my Heart,
|
And untill death we'll never part.
|
My dearest love, then weep no more
|
But all your sorrows pray give o're
|
For I have love in store for thee,
|
As much as you can have for me.

But yet my love and dearest Dear,
|
Upon the Men your too severe:

For to the World it is most plain
