The downfall of women Preachers,
OR,
Mrs. Abbigale upon her last Text:
He that is hurt or troubled with the stone,
Enters not in our Congregation,
Then Sisters since that I must reach no more,
Lay hold on that I told you of before,
To the Tune of, My Coussen makes a Cuckould on me.

ALL you Sects and Seperatis,
which hath Church Government disturbed,
The time of Reformation is,
that you are like for to be curbed:
You have abusd and grossely usd
the Word by your unlawfull teaching,
So that you cannot be excusd,
for we must have no women preaching.

Your private meetings are disdan'd,
of Christians that are well disposed,
Our Citizens have long complaind,
whose grievenses are now disclosed:
Because they find, that Female kind,
the hearts of men are overreaching,
Therefore they have it so design'd,
that we must have no women preaching.

Our Grandam Evah in Paradice,
when Adam was in's full perfection,
Did use all meanes for to intice,
and he to follow her direction:
Did give consent and was content,
the Law with her for to be breaching;
Thus wives makes hu[s]bands to repent,
therefore wee'le have no women preaching.

Silence better doth become,
a Woman far then too much prating,
For modesty will stay at home,
and on her houshold still be wayting:
She is divine, and will incline,
her Eare unto her husb[a]nds teaching,
Oh then that such a one was mine,
for I do not love a womans preaching.

Our wise and gravest Ci[t]izens,
did to the Parliament Petition,
That they might use some speedy meanes,
whereby to beat downe superstition:
And all the Sects that do perplex,
the Kingdome by unlawfull teaching,
Which makes our holy Siste[r]s vex,
to see the fall of women preaching.

The larnd and lawfull Ministers,
are by these Secteris dispised,
Who hold no Do[c]tri[n]e good but theirs,
which they amongst themselves devised:
Yet they will pray, for halfe a Day,
with romeing eyes and hand out streaching
And after with their Brethren play,
therefore wee'le have no women preaching.

The second part to the same Tune.

UNto the Church they will not goe,
which hath the bells hung in the steeple,
Because they thinke in doing soe,
they joyne amongst the wicked People:
Therefore in Corners they do creep,
to excercise their private teaching,
To such as will their counsell keep,
but now they put downe women preaching.

He that is wounded of the Stone,
amongst them shall not be admitted,
Because they thinke that such a one,
cannot sufficiantly be fitted:
For round and sound, they must be found,
or else they must not heare their teaching,
For this is held the chiefest ground,
belonging unto women preaching.

Into a Tub or Chare she goes,
and then with speeches most demure,
At least a hundred proofes she showes,
against the wicked and impure,
She open layd, her Booke and said,
beloved listen to my teaching,
A danty peece of worke she made,
but now they put downe women preaching.

She strives to beat downe sinne and yet,
approves of Carnall Copulation,
And holds it is a thing most fit,
to multiply the Congregation:

Her Sisters there, which came to heare,
did much commend her for her teaching,
Who said they all converted were,
by hearing of that woman preaching.

[Th]ough some of that opinion are,
[th]at women Preaching is forbiden,
I hope 'tis fitting to declare,
part of the truth which hath beene hiden,
Shall wicked men, condeme us then,
when wee shall meet with holy kissing,
Oh no my Friends, when'th Lecter ends,
go multyply and take my blessing.

A young man walking by the way,
met with a santified Sister,
But what they did I will not say,
no more but yet I'me sure he kist her:
She gave consent, and with him went,
where such a Lesson he did teach her,
Whereas he gave her such content,
as did exceed the woman preacher.
