A
New Song sung in the last Reviv'd Comedy,
call'd the Virtuous Wife, Acted at the Theatre
Royall. The words by Mr. Durffee, Set by Mr. Tollet.

The Sages of old,
in Prophecy told
the cause of a Nations undoeing
But the true English breed,
no Prophets doe need,
for each man here seeks his own ruin,
By grumbling & Jars,
we promote Civill warrs
and preach up false Tenets too many,
wee snarle, & wee bite,
wee raile & wee fight
for Religion yet no man has any.

Then him letts Commend,
That's true to his Friend,
And a Miss that can't wittily prattle,
That delights not in blood
But draws when he shou'd
And bravely nere shrinks from a Battle.
That rails not at Kings,
Nor at Pollitick things,
Nor Treason does speak when hees mellow
But takes a full glass,
To his Masters Success
This this is the honest brave Fellow.
